Accessing data using your copy of ferret

DODS allows one to give a application a url and have it directly download data. To read this data into ferret use
set data "http://iridl.ldeo.columbia.edu/SOURCES/.NASA/.GPCP/.V2/.multi-satellite/.prcp/Y/%2860S%29%2810N%29RANGEEDGES/T/%28Jan%201970%29%28Dec%202003%29RANGEEDGES/X/%2890W%29%2830W%29RANGEEDGES/%5BX+%5Drmsaover/%5BY+%5Dmaxover/dods"
If ferret refuses to read the file, saying
** netCDF error: Invalid Argument
is this a CDF file ?
it is quite possible that you can use set data after you download the netcdf file.

If you have questions, comments, or problems please use the help@iri link. This page will evolve as we learn more about how Ferret handles data downloads, and your help pointing out problems is much appreciated.

There is a bug in ferret which is corrected in release 6.0 (see notes about "nonstandard calendar axes"). Please upgrade if you are using monthly data.
