Accessing data using your copy of ferret

  • COARDS-compliant programs would prefer months since 0000-01-01. Click here to change the units accordingly. DODS allows one to give a application a url and have it directly download data. To read this data into ferret use
    set data "http://iridl.ldeo.columbia.edu/SOURCES/.NOAA/.NCDC/.GCPS/.MONTHLY/.STATION/T/%28Jan%201901%29%28Dec%201990%29RANGE/a:/.lon/:a:/.lat/:a:/.mean/.prcp/T/3.0/0.0/boxAverage/T/12/splitstreamgrid%5BT2%5D0.75/percentileover/%7Bdry/0.33333/normal/0.66667/wet%7Dclassify/SOURCES/.KAPLAN/.Indices/.NINO3/.avOS/T/%28Jan%201901%29%28Dec%201990%29RANGE/T/3/0.0/boxAverage%5BT%5D0.0/percentileover/%7BLaNina/0.2/Neutral/0.8/ElNino%7Dclassify/1/masklt/T/12/splitstreamgrid/mul%5BT2%5Daverage/tercileclassesscale/c:/100/%28percent%29:c/mul/DATA/0/100/RANGE/long_name/%28Probability%29def/:a/%5BIWMO+%5Ddetrend-bfl/%5Bprcp+%5Drmsover/dods"

If ferret refuses to read the file, saying
    ** netCDF error: Invalid Argument
is this a CDF file ?

it is quite possible that you can use set data after you download the netcdf file.

If you have questions, comments, or problems please use the help@iri link. This page will evolve as we learn more about how Ferret handles data downloads, and your help pointing out problems is much appreciated.

There is a bug in ferret which is corrected in release 6.0 (see notes about "nonstandard calendar axes"). Please upgrade if you are using monthly data.
