Accessing data using your copy of ferret

DODS allows one to give a application a url and have it directly download data. To read this data into ferret use
set data "http://iridl.ldeo.columbia.edu/SOURCES/.NOAA/.NCEP-NCAR/.CDAS-1/.MONTHLY/.Intrinsic/.PressureLevel/.temp/P/%28850%29%28200%29RANGE/Y/%2825S%29%2825N%29RANGE/a:/T/%28Dec%201981%29last/RANGE/:a:/T/%28Jan%201981%29%28Dec%202010%29RANGE/yearly-climatology/sub/:a%5BY%5Daverage/std_anomaly_colors/X+differences/T+integral/X+differences/dods"
If ferret refuses to read the file, saying
** netCDF error: Invalid Argument
is this a CDF file ?
it is quite possible that you can use set data after you download the netcdf file.

If you have questions, comments, or problems please use the help@iri link. This page will evolve as we learn more about how Ferret handles data downloads, and your help pointing out problems is much appreciated.

There is a bug in ferret which is corrected in release 6.0 (see notes about "nonstandard calendar axes"). Please upgrade if you are using monthly data.
