Data:  Weekly sea surface temperature on a 1.0 x 1.0 deg. lat/lon grid (Nov 1981-present)
Data Source:  NCEP, Environmental Monitoring Center, Climate Modeling Branch

Description:   (TOP)  The fraction of the total area between 85-180W, 10S-10N with a sea surface temperature greater than 28 deg. C is plotted.  Horizontal lines are drawn at 0.25 (25%) intervals with the solid line at 0.5 (50%).
(BOTTOM)   The observed seas surface temperature averaged from 10S-10N as a function of latitude and time.  The 28 deg. C isotherm is indicated.
