Data:  NCEP reanalysis monthly meridional and zonal wind (250, 500, and 925 hPa) on a 2.5 x 2.5 deg. lat/lon grid.
Base Period:  1971-2000
Data Source:  NCEP

Description:
The maps above show the monthly wind anomalies with respect to the 1971-2000 base period in three sections of the tropics (50°W to 90°E, 30°E to 140°E, 120°E to 70°W) at 250 and 925 hPa. Color contours indicate the speed of the total wind anomaly, and the length and direction of the arrows represent the speed and direction of the anomaly, respectively. NCEP is an acronym of the U.S. National Centers for Environmental Prediction.
