Data: CAMS_OPI monthly precipitation climatology on a 2.5 x 2.5 deg. lat/lon grid
Base Period for Climatology:  1961-1990 over land, 1979-present over ocean areas
Data Source:  NCEP, Climate Prediction Center USA

Description:
Monthly change in climatological precipitation (in mm) based on satellite precipitation estimates over ocean areas and rain guage data over land regions.  Change is for month indicated minus the previous month.  Contours are drawn at +/- 10, 25, 50, 100, 150, 200,250,...,500 mm.  Green shading indicates precipitation is increasing; brown shading, decreasing, respectively.

"CAMS" is an acronym for the "Climate Anomaly Monitoring System" in use at the Climate Prediction Center (CPC) at the US National Centers for Environmental Prediction (NCEP).  "OPI" stands for "Outgoing longwave radiation Precipitation Index" (the statellite precipitation estimates are based on emitted longwave radiation observed by polar-orbiting satellite.)
