Description:
The plots show the number of months during the past three (top figure) and six (bottom figure) months in which the standardized sea surface temperature anomaly exceeded +1 standard deviation (positive values in red) or fell below -1 standard deviation (shown as negative values in blue) of the 1971-2000 mean.
